The high-profile case, described by French media as “the heist of the century,” is set to begin on April 28, with Kardashian expected to testify in person on May 13. A verdict is scheduled for May 23.
Among the accused is Aomar Ait Khedache, known as “Old Omar,” now 68, who admitted his involvement but denies being the ringleader. He reportedly told investigators the job had been “easy” due to Kardashian’s frequent social media posts revealing her location and showcasing her jewellery.
Also on trial is 71-year-old Yunice Abbas, who later wrote a book тιтled *I Kidnapped Kim Kardashian*, though he claims he never entered her room. Another alleged participant, Didier Dubreucq, 69, denies being present in the room despite being accused of directly confronting the star.
The suspects are being tried before a jury—a rarity in France, reserved for serious crimes—on charges including armed robbery, kidnapping, and being part of a criminal gang.
DNA evidence was key to identifying the suspects. Of the original 12 people charged, one has since died and another, 80-year-old Pierre Bouianere, has been ruled unfit for trial due to health issues and will be tried separately.
Most of the stolen jewellery remains missing and is believed to have been sold in Belgium.
